Some Western Kentucky drivers were likely clutching their steering wheels during their morning commute. Numerous cars losing traction and sliding off the roads in the freezing rain.
The freezing rain and ice made it not only difficult to drive but also walk on. All surfaces, especially parking lots were solid sheets on ice.
"My care was covered in ice. If you're gonna go somewhere, make sure you've got plenty of time," says Roy Finley. "Just take your time and be extra cautious and you'll probably be alright."
The conditions caused several slide off even on the main roads that were pre-treated. Our crew in Madisonville reported accidents and slide offs reported on the Western Kentucky Parkway and the Pennyrile Parkway.
"When I pulled out, it was as solid sheet of ice where I was parked," Jeff Blanford tells us. "It usually takes me 35 minutes to get there. It'll probably take me twice that long to get there today."
Transportation officials say you should double your time especially when conditions are like that during the morning commute.
