About 25 jobs and a very large daycare are coming to Jasper. It will be the first of its kind in Indiana, Kid City USA Daycare.

The franchised daycare hopes to be open this spring and employ about 25 people to care for about 200 children.

The facility will house a daycare, preschool, and after school program. The owners say it will fill a void in the community."

"We feel like there is a great need for the Jasper community for something like this, so we are very excited to get started," co-owner Jenny Martindale said.

The former Norm's Market and Jasper Bakery will soon be home to Kid City USA. Although it may look like a warehouse now, in a few months, co-owners Cindy Nicholson and Jenny Martindale, hope to transform it into an inviting children's daycare.

"When we come in the door this is going to be blocked off, so we can have the offices up front, and it will be walled off. You have to be buzzed in," Nicholson said. "The kitchen will be along that wall, the whole area here with tables set up, just like a cafeteria."

Kid City USA will have an infants room, about six or seven classrooms, a playground, and plenty of activities for children including a sand room.

They will follow the franchise model, kids will have schedules much like a school and wear Kid City USA uniforms.

Although the space is large, the mother-daughter duo says there is a need.

"When we started talking about this, I had so many people say, 'Oh my gosh, we need this new daycare in town. We need more daycare, there's just not enough here.' I've talked to several people who have said when they had children, they've talked to as many as 20-25 different places as far as Loogootee for daycare. They couldn't find any, no openings. There were no openings anywhere," Nicholson said.

"We chose the south end side of Jasper, knowing that we have Huntingburg, and Ferdinand and surrounding areas of people who will travel, but work in Jasper. I just think it's going to be great," Martindale said.

Kid City USA will also have a preschool and will be hiring licensed teachers for those classrooms.

Although this is the first in Indiana, there are 10 other Kid City USAs in Florida.

"They are wonderful schools and wonderful childcare facilities. The children are always happy, the staff is always caring, loving and nurturing. That's what we hope to bring to Jasper as well," Martindale told 14 News.

They are accepting applications for jobs. If you want to apply, email applications to or mail them to Kid City USA, 600 N. Truman Rd., Jasper, IN 47546.
