LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Thursday afternoon, the Kentucky State Fair Board will vote on the proposed lease for Kentucky Kingdom. Gov. Steve Beshear said if the agreement with the Kentucky Kingdom Redevelopment Company is approved it will be a deal that is good for everyone.
"If it is approved, this lease agreement is a fair deal for both the operators and for Kentucky taxpayers," said Beshear. "It protects the state's investments without putting taxpayers on the hook for private debt, and accelerates the park's reopening."
Beshear went on to say that after the vote the only thing remaining before the countdown to opening day is for the investors, led by former park operator Ed Hart, to secure the final private funding.
Kentucky Kingdom was closed in 2009 when it's previous operator, Six Flags, Inc. underwent Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization.
