Plans to renovate the old River House hotel in Downtown Evansville are taking a major step forward.
The plan is to rehab the building and open it as a Comfort Inn and Suites.
Owner George Yerolemou showed renderings Tuesday morning to the design review committee. Renderings show balconies removed, an upgraded connecting walkway and a completely new exterior made of a stucco-like material, faux brick and stone.
The hotel has been sitting closed for a couple of years now Yerolemou says and he's ready to get moving.
The design review committee approved this initial plan 4-1, but that doesn't mean work can start right now. There are more steps, more processes to go through.
If all goes as planned the new hotel could open in May 2014.
