When cold weather hits, we can bundle up to keep ourselves warm, but for the animals at Mesker Park Zoo, they need a little help.

Zoo officials tell 14 News that they actually put some of the animals, like the giraffes, inside a barn area at night to keep them warm.

Other exotic animals, like the ones housed in Amazonia, are already in a temperature controlled area.

Besides trying to keep yourself warm in the cold, there are some other things you need to keep in mind.

The plumbing in your house needs your help in keeping warm. If you have pipes on the outside wall of your kitchen or bathroom, experts say it's a good idea to leave the cold water dripping overnight. They also say to open your cabinets to let heat in so your pipes don't freeze.

If you think it's cold here, it could be worse. In Minnesota, the wind chill is expected to be 25 below zero.  A woman in Minnesota says she took her breakfast outside and a half hour later, she had frozen eggs over-easy.
