University of Southern Indiana junior forward Aaron Nelson (Chicago Heights, Illinois) was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week for his efforts in the Screaming Eagles' wins over Saint Joseph's College and the fifth-ranked University of Indianapolis. The Player of the Week award is the first for Nelson and the second of the year for the USI men's basketball team.
 
Nelson averaged a double-double as the Eagles completed the homestand sweep. He started the week with a 15-point, 11 rebound performance against Saint Joseph's. He also shot 54.5 percent (6-11) from the field.
 
The junior forward finished the week with a second-straight double-double, 10 points and 10 rebounds, in the win over nationally-ranked UIndy. He shot 60 percent from the field (3-5) and was a perfect four-of-four from the charity stripe, while grabbing 10 defensive rebounds.
 
For the week, Nelson averaged 12.5 points and 10.5 rebounds. He shot 56.3 percent from the field (9-16) and 70 percent from the stripe (7-10). He had a total of 21 rebounds, 16 on the defensive end.
 
Nelson, who is averaging 12.1 points and 8.2 rebounds per outing this season, and the Eagles start a three-game road swing tonight at fourth-ranked Kentucky Wesleyan College. Tip-off is 7:30 p.m. tonight at the Owensboro Sportscenter.
