EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

Two vacant homes destroyed by arson have been torn down on Evansville's west side.

One home on the corner of Linwood Avenue and East Iowa Street was intentionally set on fire several months ago and a second time just after Christmas.

A neighboring home in the 600 block of Iowa Street was also destroyed by arson.

Just last month the home had to be boarded up because thieves had been stealing aluminum siding.

Officials say the vacant homes were a hazard because children and homeless people sometimes explore these unsafe structures.

Neighbors say they're happy to see the buildings finally be demolished.
