HENDERSON CO., KY (WFIE) -

The owner of a popular Tri-State restaurant is making the move from a smokehouse to the TV screen.

John Foreman, owner of Old Hickory Barbeque in Owensboro, competed on the national television program, BBQ Pitmasters.

Foreman started working in the family owned business when he was ten and says he loved watching his dad work around the restaurant.

Foreman says he bought his first barbeque pit just weeks before the competition and started seasoning it with a local, well-known favorite.

"You have to try mutton for the first time. If you've never had it. It's an Owensboro dish, you don't get it outside of Owensboro, it's what we're known for, kind of our specialty," Foreman said.

The Owensboro Visitor's Bureau is hosting a community viewing party at Gambrinus on Sunday evening, but the $10 tickets are going fast.

To see how Foreman did in the competition, you'll have to tune into Destination America, Sunday night at 8:00.
