One person is dead and another is arrested following a shooting in Franklin County on Saturday.

According to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, 37-year-old Juvenal Gonzales of Mount Pleasant was shot at a residence on FM 3357 in southern Franklin County just before noon on Saturday. This is just about one mile south of FM 115

31-year-old Clint Weldon Wilson of Sulphur Springs was arrested and has been charged with murder in the death of Gonzales, along with Felon in Possession of a firearm and theft of a firearm. Wilson was arraigned Sunday and bonds total approximately 900-thousand dollars.

Authorities noted in the preliminary investigation that Gonzales had gone to the residence to pick up his children for visitation, when a verbal argument ensued between Gonzales and the mother of his children. At a later time during the dispute, Wilson entered the room and fired multiple shots. The Sheriff's office did include in the press release, "We understand that at the time of the shooting no children were present in the residence."

Gonzales was transported to ETMC Mount Vernon where he was pronounced dead.

The Franklin County Sheriff's Office is being assisted by the Texas Rangers and Texas Department of Public Safety Crime Scene Reconstruction Team.
