ELLISVILLE, AL - -

Authorities are calling an Ellisville, Alabama man a hero after a rescue late Tuesday night. It began when Kassie Ford's vehicle plunged into Tallahala Creek after being hit by an 18-wheeler.

Jimmy and Karen Thompson witnessed the crash. Mr. Thompson immediately jumped into the water and pulled Ford from her submerged car.

The unidentified driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured returned to the scene once Thompson jumped into the water to help the victim. The accident remains under investigation.
