New studies show low-income families may be doing a better job of keeping their children from becoming obese. Researchers compared obesity among 3- and 4-year old children living in New York City and Los Angeles County.
They were all enrolled in the government's nutrition program for women, infants and children, or "WIC." In New York City, obesity prevalence decreased from 19% in 2003 to 15% in 2011.
It was a different story in Los Angeles County where the prevalence increased until 2008 then slowly started to decrease to about 20% in 2011.
