Authorities in Henderson are saying they've taken a suspect into custody, who they believe robbed the Green River Area Federal Credit Union on Thursday afternoon.

Police have identified the suspect as 53-year-old James Alan Morris of Henderson. Investigators say during questioning, Morris admitted to committing a number bank robberies in Henderson, KY and Poole, KY dating back to 2006.

  • Old National Bank - 2006
  • US Bank - 2006, 2007, 2011
  • Green River Credit Union - July 2012, 2013
  • Independence Bank - 2012
  • Bank of Henderson - 2012

Police say they arrested Morris as he pulled into his driveway, about an hour after the robbery at the Green River area Federal Credit Union on Second Street.

The Kentucky State Police have also charged Morris in connection with two bank robberies.

The charges stem from two bank robberies in the Post 2 District.  One occurred on August 11, 2006 at the Integra Bank Branch in Poole, KY and the other occurred on July 23, 2010 at the same bank.

The principal at Henderson's North Middle School, located down the street from the credit union that was robbed, says they were not letting anyone in or out at one point. The have since gotten the OK from police and have lifted the lock down.

Holy Name School was also on lock down for a time, but it has also since been lifted.

Henderson Community College confirmed that Morris is a current faculty member and they say he's worked in the maintenance and operations department since 1995.

He'll appear in district court on Tuesday.
