FT. BRANCH, IN (WFIE) -

Ft. Branch is hosting a special meeting Wednesday evening and has invited residents to voice their concerns over the old Emge Packing Plant.

An overwhelming number of residents here tell 14 News they are tired of driving by the run down building. They say it is a terrible eyesore, and after catching fire two times, neighbors know it's a hazard.

Boxell Trucking operates a glass staging area at the old Emge plant. A lawyer representing Joey Boxell wrote in a letter that the "operation at the site is legal and meets all state and local requirements."

The letter continues to read that Boxell has made personal contact with those persons who live closest to the site and hasn't received any complaints. But some neighbors say they've never heard from Boxell, and they think the site is in fact an environmental hazard to the area.

"There have been articles of glass on my back porch. The town has tried to do everything with what we have done there with the glass. So far nothing has been able to be produced, nothing at all," said Melvin Greulich, who lives by the old Emge Packing Plant.

Melvin says the glass blows throughout the neighborhood, gets in his garden and litters the street.

If you'd like to voice your opinion or learn more about what's being done, you're encouraged to attend the special meeting Wednesday night at the Ft. Branch Community Center at 6:00.
