Officials with United Caring Shelters in Evansville are hoping you can help them in their bike to work program.
They've given over 660 bicycles to veterans and job seekers since 2005.
Executive Director Kimron Reising tells 14 News the bicycles come from community donations. A volunteer then works to make sure the bikes are in good working condition.
Reising says the bikes are for people who either have a job and need transportation or for those who are job searching. Reising says the program helps achieve the main goals of UCS.
"Getting employment and finding permanent housing, and you've got to have employment in order to get permanent housing, because it requires an income. In order to get employment you've got to have transportation. If a person has a bicycle, they have a much better chance of getting where they need to go and being there when they get there, and the exercise is good," Reising said.
If you have a bicycle you'd like to donate to the program, UCS says you can drop it by their office downtown at 324 NW Sixth Street between 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Their number is 812-422-0297.
