A decision has been reached Monday night after parents pleaded their case against of a proposed apartment complex. But it didn't go their way.
The parents are upset over a multi-million dollar project and where it will be built in Warrick County.
The Warrick County Planning Commission gave the green light Monday to a petition from the developers for a PUD or planned unit development.
A large group of concerned parents packed the planning commission's meeting Monday night, speaking out against a nearly $14 million apartment complex that would be built right next to Castle North Middle School.
Parents say they're worried about increased traffic and their child's safety if the nine building, 208 unit complex is built.
"There's lots of land available in Warrick County. There's lots of land available in Newburgh. Why does it have to be this particular area right next to Castle North?" asked Donna Bratton.
"I gotta little girl that's going to be going there before long. I don't want my little girl getting hit on by some 35-year-old man trying to get her to go in his apartment," said a concerned parent.
The attorney for the developers told the commission the multi-million dollar project would attract higher income tenants and all of them will have to under-go a background check.
The attorney also says as that property is zoned now, the project could still go forward in some form even without any further zoning approval.
The issue about the PUD that was approved Monday night now goes in front of the Warrick County Commission in February. We'll keep you updated.
