The Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office says they have arrested a Newburgh man after he attempted to break into a home twice in northeastern Vanderburgh County.

Deputies say they have arrested 21-year-old Trent Alan Thompson after he attempted to break into the home twice in one night, the second time while deputies were inside the home.

Around midnight on Saturday, deputies say the homeowner called 911 to report that a man was trying to break in through a glass patio door.

Dispatch says they could hear the attempted break-in over the line, and while they had the caller on the phone, they heard her fire a shot at the intruder who had not yet made entry.

Authorities arrived and found the intruder had left.

Deputies and K9s began to search the area. Less than 15 minutes later, deputies found Thompson attempting to break-in again through the garage.

Sheriff's investigators were able to determine that Thompson had been drinking around two hours earlier at the Hornest's Nest. Authorities say he became angry while watching a football game and left.

Thompson told authorities he believed he was at a friend's residence when he was arrested.

Thompson is charged with residential entry, criminal mischief, and public intoxication.
