With some roads flooded and the threat of freezing rain Sunday night, driving conditions could quickly turn hazardous.

Local transportation officials are urging drivers to use extra caution.

Keith Todd of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says high water has really impacted roads in Union, Webster, and Crittenden Counties, most notably on Kentucky State Road 56.

Todd says water levels are finally beginning to recede in these areas, but he says road crews are preparing for the possibility of freezing rain overnight.

Todd says he hasn't seen rainfall like this, in our area, in nearly a year. He says, because of this long layoff in heavy rainfall, drivers may forget to slow down and be more careful on the road.

"Just remember that basic rule, 'Turn around. Don't drown.' You're a lot better off to turn around then you are to try to drive through water and get into trouble. Because, it only takes about 60" of moving water to push a vehicle off the roadway, or if you have to get out of your vehicle, to push you off your feet," Todd said.

We are expected to receive some more rain Sunday night around 9:00 or 10:00. Though the freezing rain aspect is not expected to greatly impact drivers.

Todd says everyone should still take travel precautions in case something changes.

For those in Union and Webster Counties, Todd says be careful, especially around these areas:

WEBSTER County
KY 132 from 10 to 14 mile point
KY 138 from `0.7 to 10.44 mile point
KY 270 from 6.8 to 8.7 mile point
KY 1525 from 0 to 2.6 mile point

UNION County
KY 56 from 0 to 7.8 mile point
KY 492 from US 60 to McFall Road
KY 760 ALL from Waverly to Highland Mines
