POSEY COUNTY, IN -

The man accused of trying to kill a Posey County deputy last year has been sentenced to 38 years in prison.

A jury found Brandon McManomy guilty of attempted murder last month.

Authorities say Deputy Dan Montgomery was slashed and needed 30 stitches to his jaw.

Authorities say the attack happened as the deputy was arresting McManomy on a rape warrant out of Kentucky.

In that case McManomy pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

He will serve the new sentence after he serves those 15 years in Kentucky.
