SOUTH HADLEY, MA (WSHM) -
Big Y announced Wednesday they will be closing the doors of their Newton Street location in South Hadley.
In a release sent to CBS 3 the local grocery store says they are consolidating their Newton Street location with their other South Hadley store on Willimansett Street by Feb. 9.
Big Y officials said a nearing lease expiration as well as a recent customer service business review were a couple of their reasons for closing.
They will be able to accommodate some employees, but others will be laid off.
In a statement President and COO Charles D'Amour said:
"It is always difficult to close a store. We appreciate all of the help and support from our Newton St. employee team, along with our loyal customers who loved shopping there. We look forward to continuing to serve the South Hadley community with World Class Service in our Willimansett St. market for all of their grocery and pharmacy needs."
