The National Weather Service Doppler radar in Paducah is currently out of commission.
Technicians are beginning the Dual Pol upgrade on the Paducah radar which is expected to take about two weeks.
The upgrade is designed to enhance several forecasting tools, including better detection of the types of precipitation and how heavy it is falling.
Owensville's radar, which serves the tri-state, is scheduled for the upgrade in early February, if not sooner.
The change is part of a national upgrade for all National Weather Service radars across the country.
