After that deadly house fire Friday morning in Mt. Vernon that killed three people, some Tri-Staters are coming together to help the family find a place to live.
The Robb family lost everything in Friday morning's fire, including some family members. Now, relatives and a local business are organizing fundraisers to help get this family back on their feet.
"Any fire, or any event like this, is tragic," said family member Christina Brantley. "But to lose children and family members is tragic, and not only that, have to deal with the stress and worry of losing everything that you've had."
Christina says she has known the Robb family long enough to be considered a family member. Right now, she says the family is grieving the loss of three of their own, while trying to figure out where they go from here.
"The Red Cross only got them a hotel until Sunday," Brantley said. "So, in addition to losing family members, they have to have no money. You know, obviously everything got burned up in the house. We're really trying to get enough money to help them get a house. They have until Sunday to find a place to live."
In order to do that, Brantley says there will be a bake sale and donation drive Sunday, at the Mt. Vernon Public Library. And local business 'rent one' is doing what it can to help out as well.
"Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. We're going to hold a donation drive," said Rent One manager Sascha Lee. "Whoever wants to bring something in, we're going to have a box up by the register."
Lee says all the donations made there will be gathered up and given to the Robb family next Saturday. He says they're in desperate need of non-perishable food, clothing, and hygienic products.
Brantley says that bake sale will happen between 1:00 and 3:00 in the afternoon Sunday. She says they're looking for baby clothes, diapers, women's shoes, and men's and women's clothing among other donations.
Here are some of the sizes they are looking for:
Baby girl: 2T, baby toys
Women: 9 1/2 shoe, 2X shirts, size 15 pants
Men: 32/32 pants, L shirts
