MOUNT HOOD, OR (KPTV) -

A Portland man is facing charges after his kids called 911 from the back of their Jeep to report he was drunken driving, Oregon State Police said.

At about 2 p.m. on New Year's Day, troopers learned the Jeep had pulled in front of a stopped vehicle in a highway pullout near Hoodoo ski area.

As the jeep was slowing down, a girl got out of the Jeep and ran barefoot in the snow toward the stopped vehicle, troopers told FOX 12.

The girl asked for the people's help, and they placed her inside their vehicle, police said.

Those people also took the Jeep's keys from the driver to prevent him from leaving the scene before OSP arrived.

Troopers arrested Michael Stout, 47, at the scene.

He was taken to Deschutes County Jail for booking on DUI, reckless driving, and reckless endangering another person charges.

A trooper took the two kids who were inside the jeep, a boy and a girl under the age of 13, to Salem where they were reunited with their mother, troopers said.
