An Evansville man faces federal child pornography charges.
The 10 count indictment was announced Thursday afternoon by US Attorney Joseph Hogsett.
Jack Perkins III has been charged with owning and receiving sexually explicit material involving minors. Hogsett says a search of Perkins' computer revealed graphic and very disturbing images of multiple children, many younger than five years old.
Perkins was also charged last February with criminal confinement and child molestation.
Police say Perkins approached two boys, lured one of them into the car and abused him.
The 27-year-old Evansville man will be in court to face those charges on February 25th. Good work by local law enforcement is what Hogsett says made the federal charges possible.
"The Evansville Police Department, it's Task Force officers assigned to our cyber crimes task force, have really stepped up, done extraordinary work, in double duty to bring this individual to justice. And to protect the children, the most innocent among us," he said.
Hogsett says Perkins faces up to 10 years in federal prison, including a $250,000 fine if found guilty of possessing child porn. A 20-year maximum could also be added if he's found guilty of receiving those materials.
