On Wednesday morning, we learned that Sam Featherstone passed away.
His life and battle with cancer sparked a movement called SamStrong. The 19-year-old has been battling brain cancer for three years.
He had multiple rounds of chemotherapy and radiation plus three brain surgeries but a recent MRI showed the cancer had come back, and there were no more treatment options.
Despite that, Sam, along with his family and friends raised a lot of money and awareness to help find a cure for childhood brain cancer.
Last Thursday night they held an event called "SamStrong: Search for the Cure." They were able to raise 183 thousand dollars for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Both the City of Evansville and the Town of Newburgh recognized Sam and his leadership in raising money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital by proclaiming December 27, 2012 Sam Featherstone Day and Pediatric Brain Cancer Awareness Day, respectively.
