OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) -

If you're looking to get rid of your Christmas tree, the Owensboro Sanitation Department can help you out.

The program kicks off today and runs until Monday.

Here's a look at how it works.

The Sanitation Department will collect natural Christmas trees on your trash collection day.

Now there are a couple rules.

Be sure to remove all lights, ornaments, and any other decorations before you take the tree outside.

Also, the department asks that you not bag the tree, just leave it on the curb.

In addition to this program, you're also encouraged to recycle at the Drop-Off Recycling Center on West 7th Street.

You can bring newspaper, aluminum cans, milk containers, and much more.

The city encourages residents to use the Drop-Off Recycling Center as we come out of the holidays, since people tend to have more trash after parties and other events.

This also helps to free up more space in residents' garbage cans.

Again, if you'd like to have your tree picked up, make sure it's outside on your trash collection day this week.
