For one Tri-State family, the new year is off to a very exciting start. Early Tuesday morning, they welcomed in the first baby of 2013.

This was Stephanie Ferreira's third child, a beautiful baby boy named Jamarion, and he slept through the whole interview with 14 News.

But one day, mom will have a good story to tell him about the day he was born.

So far, Jamarion Anthony Madison seems pretty content with 2013.

"He's not a crybaby. He's a good baby," Stephanie told 14 News.

A good baby with even better timing.

"My contractions started right at 12:03 a.m.," Stephanie said.

The little guy waited just long enough for mom and dad to ring in the new year before letting them know he was ready to join the party.

"And all of a sudden, then just bam, he just came all at once," Stephanie said.

Stephanie had just gotten a text from her mom wishing her a Happy New Year.

When she wrote back saying she was having contractions, grandma figured it was a false alarm.

After all, Stephanie wasn't even due until the ninth.

"But then five minutes later, she texts me back again and says I'm on my way to the hospital. I'm not going to wait for you. I'm with my sister," grandma Stephanie Doyle said.

A few hours later at 3:21 a.m., Jamarion officially became Evansville's first baby of the new year.

And at St. Mary's, that title has its perks.

"They was getting ready to put me in the room and they opened the door and said surprise. We saw everything sitting up already. This was 6:00 in the morning after my epidueral wore off," Stephanie said.

With all the excitement, mom says she's a little sleep deprived, but who wouldn't be with so much to celebrate?

A new year and a new life. An adorable seven pounds and five ounces to love.

"It's something special to me, to us, for all the family and we're very blessed. The more the merrier!" Doyle said.

Grandma says this was her 7th grandbaby and she's expecting her 8th in just a few weeks.

Stephanie says she and Jamarion should be heading home in a couple days.
