The Owensboro Family YMCA is celebrating the new year with a free open house.
David Edds, his wife, and their twin boys have been involved with the Y through youth sports, but decided 2013 was the year to become members.
"We're really looking forward to not only getting in shape, but we subscribe to the mind, body, spirit logo of the family Y," David said.
For the Edds family, the start of a new year marks an opportunity to try something new.
David's family joined the Y when he was five, and now that his boys are that age, the timing couldn't be better.
"This is a good time for us to engage in all the programs that the Y has to offer," David told 14 News.
Throughout the day, families that decided to Try the Y, were treated to tours of the facility and the chance to explore other services.
Owensboro Family YMCA President Arthur Harreld says he's pleased with the number of visitors.
"We've had several families in and had several groups come through already just checking out the facility, wanting to see some of the things we've done," Harreld said.
The event name celebrates some of the big changes that have taken place over the past year at the Y.
"We coined that little phrase due to the fact that we've had so much going on, and people are interested in finding out what's going on within the YMCA," Harreld said.
Including people like the Edds family.
"We look forward to growing in the Y community," David said.
Everything's open until 10:00 p.m. Tuesday night, if you'd like to head on down and Try the Y for yourself.
There's also new equipment, a new pool, and whirlpool heaters.
