On the strength of the second-ever triple-double in University of Evansville history, senior Troy Taylor was named Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week today. He shares the honor with Cleanthony Early of Wichita State.
Taylor notched just the 36th triple-double in Valley history and the second in the league since the beginning of the 2011-12 campaign. Jake Odum of Indiana State did so last season. His feat consisted of 10 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assistsin Saturday's game at Creighton. A threat to pick up a triple-double every time he steps on the floor, Taylor is the Aces leader in rebounds, assists and assist/turnover ratio, is the only player in the league to be ranked in the top ten in each of those categories.
Taylor's effort versus the Bluejays included ten points, ten rebounds and ten assists. On top of all of that, he registered a pair of steals and his first blocked shot of the season. The 6-0 point guard has led the Aces in rebounding on 19 occasions over the last two years, a team-high while leading Evansville in in assists 18 times over that same span. Taylor's feat marked the first triple-double for UE since Reed Jackson did so against New Hampshire in 1995.
