Community comes together to support Tri-State teen, cancer research

Hundreds of people came out to support a Newburgh teenager with cancer, and to raise money for research.

19-year-old Sam Featherstone has been battling brain cancer for over three years.

A recent MRi showed the cancer has returned and there are no more treatment options.

Sam's wish was to hold a fundraiser for St. Jude Children's Hospital's pediatric Brain Cancer Research Team.

Organizers gathered donations for a live and silent auction, and to spread the word. Thursday night, Sam's parents greeted supporters with hugs and thanks.

"Individuals that have gone into making this night such a success, to really make a difference for Sam and helping Sam and St. Jude meet our goal of beating pediatric brain cancer. This is just Sam's dream come to life," said Sam's dad Andy. "We truly appreciate it. It means a lot to our family. Words can't express our thanks. It's just overwhelming."

Sam's parents say that Sam wanted this to be like a game night, so there was pizza, drinks, and board games.

Sam is now in hospice care at home.
