OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) -

Just because it's Christmas doesn't mean the work stops for volunteers at the humane society in Owensboro.

The animals need care 365 days a year, and Tuesday is no exception.

Humane society president Carmel McLeod says when it comes to the holidays, her and her staff don't have to think twice.

"We have to be open every day of the year, and so to give medications, to love all these animals and give them food and water. So why not be open? So we're open on every holiday, every Sunday, and seven days a week," MeLeod said.

The humane society is ramping up it's adoption efforts as the year comes to a close. You can always donate to help them continue caring for these animals next year.
