Officials stress safety tips on Christmas Eve

The Owensboro Police Department wants to make sure everyone has a Merry Christmas by remembering some simple safety tips.

OPD posted the list of holiday safety tips on its Facebook page.

The first one's definitely relevant for today.

Be sure to leave enough time to get where you're going.

Lots of drivers will be on the road, no matter where you are in the Tri-State.

Keep an eye out for aggressive drivers, too, and remember to try to stay calm and patient.

If you're traveling and need to stop at any point, check to make sure that gifts and shopping bags are covered up or can't be seen.

Also, remember to keep your car locked.

These tips may seem like common sense, but they can be easily forgotten with the hustle and bustle of today.

If you're at a party or event tonight where there's alcohol, have a designated driver.

Likewise, if you're out and suspect there's a drunk driver on the roads, call police immediately.

And have a Merry Christmas!
