LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A power outage is postponing the Salvation Army's Angel Tree make up day.
Major Michael Hawley said Thursday was the last day for the handouts, but parents who couldn't make their appointments or didn't have their paperwork were asked to stop by the MALE Campus on South Brook Street Friday to get their gifts.
Without computers or electricity Hawley said they had to cancel. Several parents were concerned when they showed up and found the doors locked with a sign posted saying the power is out and they must come back on January 7.
It also left everyone sleeping in the organization's emergency shelter and apartments in the dark. Hawley said they were able to make a warm breakfast by flashlight.
Louisville Gas and Electric outage map indicates more than 700 customers in that same area are without power. Spokesperson Cliff Feltham there was a bad switch that caused the outage. They identified the problem around 2 Friday afternoon and expect the power to be back on by the late afternoon.
Salvation Army spokesperson David Yarmuth said as long as the power is restored, parents can pick up their gifts between 9 a.m. and noon on Saturday. Yarmuth said you can either stop by the campus or call the main office to check at (502) 671-4900. They can also still get their gifts on the final make-up day, January 7.
