Despite the worldwide catastrophe purportedly forecast by the Mayan calendar, it's looking more and more like the world will survive Friday, Dec. 21.
Still, couples came to Las Vegas to live like Thursday was their last day on earth with end-of-the-world celebrations.
Local business Vegas Weddings is performing more ceremonies. Others are using the Mayan calendar as an excuse to get out and party.
Max Gonzalez and Yazmin Realpe-Gonzalez don't believe the world will end on Friday, but said that if it does, they're glad they took the plunge on Thursday.
"(It was the) perfect day to get married anyway. How do you know what's going on tomorrow? I try to live day by day," Max Gonzalez said.
The people who run Vegas Weddings said they have dozens of bookings for Thursday and Friday.
"We are very busy for a Friday, and I do think it has a lot to do with the date," said Shelly Powers with Vegas Weddings. "I think these people really think that it's going to be the end of the world."
While some ran to chapels before the apocalypse, others headed to the nearest watering hole.
At the Commonwealth bar on Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas, there will be an end-of-the-world party on Friday, complete with a countdown at midnight on the roof patio.
"We are creating a net canopy that will hold 2,500 LED balloons. At 12 o'clock we are going to release them into the air," said the Commonwealth's Jerry Lemon.
The party will likely turn into a world-didn't-end bash.
"I think at 12 o'clock the time will become 12:01 and we'll all still be here," Lemon said.
While many believe in the doomsday prediction, NASA has said the rumor is nonsense and released several videos debunking the theory.
