EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

For half a decade now, families in need have counted on "At the Cross Mission" to provide a warm Christmas meal, but this year, that dinner was in jeopardy. Until a complete stranger stepped in to help out.

Myers Hyman starts his day around 10 o'clock every morning.

"I'll start put something on and let it slow cook all day," said Hyman.

By five o'clock in the evening he has enough food to feed about 100 people and that's about how many come by every night.

Every Christmas for the last five years since they opened the mission, Myers and his wife have hosted a Christmas dinner.

"I don't go home and see my mom, but this year, I want to go home and see my mom, she's sick," said Myers.

Myers thought he would have to cancel the dinner until a stranger called and offered to put the whole thing together.

"We talked for a few minutes and then I asked him, Mr. Hyman, is there any possible way you would let me open up your kitchen for those people on Christmas Day, because what are they going to do," said Poshard.

Tami already has 20 volunteers,  now she's hoping you can help out.

"We have been looking for someone to donate his time to be the Santa Clause for the children. We're also asking for donations of unwrapped toys," said Poshard.

Tami may just be donating her time, but for Myers it's something else.

"I knew it was God's gift when she called," said Myers.

Another act of Christmas kindness, Myers says that he wasn't able to afford to visit his mother, who lives in South Carolina, until someone anonymously donated the money for him and his wife to rent a car.

If you would like to donate gifts you can drop donations off at anyone of these three Bella Staffing locations:

  • 1)     108 B West Second Street, Mt. Vernon
  • 2)     1006 E. Diamond Ave, Suite #6, Evansville
