The Daviess County Sheriff's Department honors on its own with a prestigious award this week.

Deputy Chester Freels won this year's deputy of the year award at the Daviess County Sheriff's department.

This is the first time in Freel's seven year career with the department that he has won the award. He was chosen over 36 deputies. Freels says he tried to work hard this year and was surprised to find out he won the award.

"It's just an honor to be recognized as deputy of the year because we have a full department of deputies that are worthy," said Deputy Chester Freels, Daviess County Sheriff's Department.

"It was a tough decision, but Deputy Freels volunteers for so many things. He is self motivates himself to do things without being asked. He is just your all around perfect employee," said Chief Deputy J.D. Marksberry, Daviess County Sheriff's Department

The deputy of the year award has been given out at the Daviess County Sheriff's Department for over 20 years. Deputy Freels says he will continue to work hard and try to win the award next year.
