JONESBORO, Ark. (AStateRedWolves.com) — Former Arkansas State pitcher Brad Allen, who played for the Red Wolves from 2010-11, recently had his contract with the Florence Freedom in the Frontier League bought out by the Arizona Diamondbacks and will join the club for spring training this February.

Allen helped lead Florence to the Frontier League championship series where he made three starts, allowed just three runs and struck out 19 in 22 innings. During the regular season he made three starts and appeared in eight games. Allen had a 1.06 ERA and fanned 21 in 33.2 innings of work.

"It has been pretty crazy since I found out," Allen said. "When you play independent baseball you don't know what to expect. When you are there it is always about how are you going to get noticed. Now that I have been signed by the Diamondbacks it is a great opportunity and a great chance to surround myself with great people at a great organization."

Allen pitched two seasons at A-State where he compiled an 8-7 record and 6.01 ERA. He made 20 starts in his career and appeared in 34 games. He had career high seven strikeouts against South Alabama on May 7, 2011 and went a career high 7.2 innings against Arkansas-Little Rock earlier that same year.

The Diamondbacks will play their first spring training game Feb. 23 at Salt River Fields in Scottsdale, Ariz., Feb. 23 against the Colorado Rockies. A reporting date for players to report has not yet been set.
