LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The gates could soon be open at Kentucky Kingdom.
Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear said there is progress in regards to reopening the amusement park.
While talking to 84-WHAS radio Tuesday, the Governor said there was a deal to lease the vacant park to a Louisville development group.
Beshear said there was only one bid submitted to the state to reopen Kentucky Kingdom.
Beshear Wouldn't say who placed the bid, but the Kentucky Kingdom Redevelopment Company, a partnership that includes developer Ed Hart, submitted a bid in October.
The Governor said there will be no state funding for the project, leaving the potential new owners on their own to redevelop the park, "It's fair to say we are fairly close to negotiating a lease if we get there and the fair board approves the next step is for the bidder to come up with the financing for it."
Hart ran the park before selling to Six Flags in the late 90s.
Kentucky Kingdom closed in 2009.
WAVE 3 Did speak with Hart on the phone Wednesday, but he declined to comment.
