Alcoa awards more than $300,000 in grants to local non-profit organizations

Posted: Updated:

Alcoa Warrick Operations will announce its 2012 allocations from the Alcoa Foundation on Thursday, Dec. 13, at 3:30 p.m. during a celebration at Mesker Park Zoo & Botanic Garden, one of 19 different organizations receiving funding from the Foundation.

The Alcoa Foundation is investing $307,500 to 19 different non-profit organizations, all with projects that fit into the Alcoa Foundation's Focus Areas. Through community partnerships, the Foundation's investments are intended to build economic success, environmental excellence and social responsibility.

This year, Alcoa Warrick Operations continues with a local giving strategy that is defined as, "Shaping Tomorrow's Workforce and Building a Sustainable Community." To accomplish that, the Alcoa Foundation's investments are focused primarily on education and improving the environment.

Representatives from each of the non-profit organizations are expected to attend the grant-announcement ceremony at Mesker Park Zoo, which is receiving one of the new grants awarded.

Representatives of Alcoa Warrick Operations will discuss Alcoa's successful Month of Service, which concluded in October. More than 34,000 Alcoa employees across the globe participated in volunteer programs. Warrick Operations had record participation in this annual program in 2012, helping community organizations in numerous ways.

In addition to the Alcoa Foundation grants, representatives of various non-profit organizations that received financial assistance based on the work of Alcoa volunteers, will also attend the program. Those grants amount to $70,500.

These are the organizations scheduled to be recognized with Alcoa Foundation grants during Thursday's program:
