West side church's community pantry shelves in need of stock

The Catalyst Church on Evansville's west side has a community food pantry and the shelves need some stocking.

The church is about two years old, the food pantry is even newer and could use your help.

"There are times when we get really low and we're like 'God, how are we going to provide?'" church director, Rebecca Law said.

Rebecca Law helps run the food pantry at Catalyst Church in Evansville. She is especially passionate about serving others who are struggling because she's been in their shoes.

"I've been without food. I've been homeless, so who else better to witness to people and say, 'hey, it's okay you can get through this than someone who's been there," Law said.

Law says it's important for everyone to know it's okay to ask for help. That's what the food pantry is for.

"We want you to know that we're here and that's what this is about. To provide the help that we can and reach out to people and say, 'hey, we love you,'" Law told 14 News.

The food pantry is fairly new, having only been in operation for about six months. Just last month, they served nearly 200 families. That's almost 2,000 meals.

"I believe that with Christmas around the corner, the demand is going to be high and the demand is always high even without the holidays. Anywhere from the middle of the month to the end of the month, we get very busy," Law said.

Trying to keep up with that demand is hard, but Law says with the community's help, it's possible.

"To see the reaction on people's face, even for just nine meals, it's the most rewarding and blessing thing someone could do," Law said.

The food pantry is open Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. The church is at 3232 Claremont Avenue in Evansville.
