EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

The Evansville Police Department got a $15,000 grant on Monday.

Motorola Solutions Foundation's money will fund three Citizen's Academies next year. These classes provide us an opportunity to learn what goes on in all facets of the police department from the SWAT unit to the crime scene division.

"If you hear that there's an investigation going on and our detectives are out at the scene, instead of just watching it on the news and going, 'Oh I wonder what they're doing,' you'll have an idea of what they're doing, what the process is, what the timeline is, and I really think it helps people understand what's going on within their police department," EPD's Jason Cullum said.

The next Citizen's Academy will run from April 2nd to May 21st.
