EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

Two Evansville brothers are arrested after police say they caught them stealing metal pipes.

Police say 48-year-old Eric Coffee and 50-year-old Steven Coffee were loading large pipes onto a U-Haul truck on Burkhardt.

The property caretaker called police when the two men were stopped a few blocks away. Both claimed they took the pipes, because there was a sign that read 'free.'

Officers say there was a sign that appeared to have been placed there by the brothers.
