An Evansville fire house is about to go back in service, after being closed for more than a month for renovations.
It was exactly one month ago that we went inside to see the early progress at Station 14, that's on Willow Road right near St. Ben's School on the East Side.
Well Friday, firefighters were allowed back in to do some final cleaning, preparing to officially move back in on Monday.
During the renovation process they worked out of Station 16 on Washington Avenue.
While they were gone the house got new countertops and cabinets, floors and fresh paint.
The roof has now been replaced.
Some of those renovations being paid for with a county option income tax money back from the state after an accounting error.
"We're all excited about it we've been bunking with the other guys at station 16 and we'll be glad to get back home and have a nice painted, remodeled station. It'll be great," said Capt. Ben Morris, EFD.
The city says all but one of Evansville's 14 fire stations already have or will be getting some updates.
The guys at Station 14 plan to try to get furniture back in over the weekend and again will be able to stay the night on Monday.
