TRI-STATE (WFIE) -
The Tri-State Food Bank is, once again, helping needy families during the holidays.
The non-profit organization invited 500 needy families to receive turkeys, hams, and other food for the holidays, during the two-day "Christmas Give Away".
A long of line of people showed up for the event.
Food Bank officials say it's important, this time of year, to help those less fortunate for a number of reasons.
"When it gets colder and they have to turn their heat on...ya know they have more bills & you know if a child gets sick, so that takes a big crunch out of their budget," said Mary Blair, Executive Director, Tri-State Food Bank.
Stephanie Pittman, who was receiving food said, "It's great that God's work is coming through these peeps, it really is. Families like mine, we have 3 kids and only one income."
Donations continue Saturday until 2:30 p.m.
