Possible chemical fire put out by crews - 14 News, WFIE, Evansville, Henderson, Owensboro

Crews quickly extinguish potentially dangerous fire at Evansville business

Posted: Updated:

A factory fire shut down a portion of the Old Boonville Highway this morning.

It happened shortly after 10 a.m. at O'Bryan Barrel Company East of Morgan Avenue.

The fire investigator says a worker welding a machine accidentally sparked an oil and grease collection pit on fire.

District Chief Dan Grimm says the HazMat team was called out as a precaution.

"There's chemicals used in all types of manufacturing in Evansville and used very safely but just the fact that our captain recognized that we could possibly have an issue he got the HazMat team here and that was absolutely the right thing to do," said Grimm.

Grimm says no one was injured and firefighters quickly put out the flames

The company has not returned our calls for comment.
