A passerby trying to help a mail carrier, was killed late this morning in Muhlenberg County.
It happened on Highway 431 south of Beechmont.
Authorities say the mail carrier went off the road in an isolated crash, and within minutes the situation got worse.
Kentucky State Police say it happened just after 9 Friday morning when a vehicle heading northbound stopped on the side of the road to help the mail carrier.
Authorities say when the passenger in the northbound truck got out of the car, they were struck by a southbound dump truck and killed.
The road was slick from the rain this morning and KSP says that may have played a factor in why the dump truck couldn't stop in time.
Some locals on the scene say Highway 431 can be dangerous, especially when there's bad weather.
"It's just a bunch of curves and thing and this wreck and this road has not got no shoulder on the right hand side of it coming south and when you come around it you get about 100 feet before you can see anything and there ain't no way that man seen them in time to do anything about it and there ain't no telling how many have went off right there where that truck's lying," said Walter Brewer, Local Resident.
The identity of the victim has not been released and no word yet on if there were any other injuries. We'll keep you updated.
