BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) -

A former employee at a Southern Illinois hospital has been convicted of stealing personal information from patients and using it to open credit cards in their names.

28-year-old Susan Harris of Belleville was convicted by a federal jury Wednesday of aggravated identity theft and conspiracy to commit mail fraud.

During the trial, prosecutors contended Harris, a medical assistant at the time, conspired with Ashley Drummond to steal personal information from elderly patients.  Drummond stole the information from their charts and worked with Harris to open credit card accounts in the patients' names.

Evidence against Harris included footage from a store security camera that showed her using one of the credit cards.

Drummond pleaded guilty last month. Harris is scheduled to be sentenced in March.
