Hello everyone and Happy Wednesday:) Thanks for checking in!
Today started with me waking up from a dream that I was working. Specifically, going around a neighborhood (I think?) trying to get people to do an interview with me about some story or another. Blah… NOT my favorite thing to wake up to:) If I could choose my dreams, they would definitely not be work-related. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way. Sheesh!
Anyway, my work day started a little earlier than usual… with a Vanderburgh County Council meeting. I have been to some of these before, but today's was definitely the longest I've attended. Just a few minutes shy of 3 hours!!! I will say, you learn quite a bit about things at these meetings. I certainly respect our council members who serve the county, in addition to working their other jobs. County Council is a fiscal body, so they see a lot of numbers. Because they are tasked with appropriating (yeah, yeah a big word they like to use for divvying out money), a lot is at stake.
At today's meeting, I focused on three primary topics: money being approved for a capital murder trial, a proposal from the Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library to buy and renovate the current Evansville Rescue Mission, and another step in the process for the EMA office to move into the Vanderburgh County Jail.
The first two ended up being more entertaining than the last. Before a vote on the library's presentation, Council actually kind of paused while reps from EVPL and the Rescue Mission gathered in the hallway to confer about things. It was semi-dramatic. Ok, that may be an exaggeration. A little more exciting than usual, at least. :)
It's also a good feeling at these meetings to see a lot of people who you know, or at least recognize. It's always so difficult starting at a new station and figuring out who is who among the people you need to know and interview. I've now been here a little over a year, and slowly I am building up that contact list! Definitely makes things easier once you've worked with people a time or two!
Ok, well it's about time for me to head to my 6pm live shot in front of Central Library. I'm trying to leave directly after—get out of here on time for once! I have a tendency to take forever finishing all of my tasks… but not today!!! Yay!
Enjoy the evening. I'm planning on watching a Christmas movie… very exciting!
