Social media has revolutionized how we get information. Everyone from news outlets to businesses are using it to reach a wider audience, and now a local doctor is using it to help parents.
From his office at St. Mary's Center for Children, Dr. Jim Schroeder is reaching families around the Tri-State.
"There are so many issues that families face on a daily basis. Issues with child rearing and dealing with their own struggles and so the main purpose of the articles is to get to discuss things that I think are relevant," said Dr. Schroeder, pediatric psychologist.
For 4 months Dr. Schroeder has been posting articles on Facebook and Twitter.
"Many times we don't see families until they've really reached a crisis point," said Dr. Schroeder.
His hope is to get parents thinking about certain issues earlier and it looks like it's working.
Several schools have picked up the articles via social media and started including them in their newsletter that get sent out to parents.
Holy Rosary is one of those schools.
"they give parents really good ideas and strategies to use with their kids who have difficulties," said Joan Fredrich, Principle Holy Rosary. "Whether those difficulties are related to emotional issues, behavioral issues, academic issues. It just gives parents different perspective on how to think things through," she said.
