In Daviess County, major safety improvements are coming to a highway.
Drivers say they are looking forward to the realignment of Kentucky 144 near Pleasant Valley Road.
The one mile stretch of Highway 144 near Pleasant Valley Road has a lot of car accidents. The state says the reconstruction of the eight curves on the highway will improve safety and driving.
Phillip west takes Highway 144 to work almost every single day.
"I leave about 4:30 in the morning and by the time I get down to those 's' curves, I'm battling the semi trucks that come through here on the curves," West said.
West says drivers are traveling too fast around the curves.
"When they're hauling and I'm doing the speed limit, I have to slow down so I can make the curve because they are cutting off into the curve," he said.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet held a meeting at East View Elementary School for the public to ask questions about the project and its design.
"The one that is preferred right now will cost $2.1 million total," said Keith Todd with the KYTC. "The thinking is that it will take the least about of property from neighbors along the route."
Construction will begin in two years and West says he can't wait.
"It will probably be a whole lot safer for everyone who travels through here."
