LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – An Elizabethtown cardiologist and his former wife pleaded guilty Monday to charges involving the harboring of an undocumented Bolivian national at their home, according to David J. Hale, United States Attorney for the Western District of Kentucky.

Javier Arce, 59, pleaded guilty to charges that he failed to report knowledge of a felony to the proper authorities.

His ex-wife, Cristina Mier Arce, 56, pleaded guilty to charges of harboring for financial gain.

Investigators said that beginning in 1994, the Arces recruited the woman to travel to the United States and then harbored her in their home and derived financial benefit from her labor as a full-time domestic servant from 1994 to 2006.

As part of the plea agreement, the Arces were placed on probation for two years and are required to pay the victim restitution for back wages totaling $100,000.
